Rebellion to Tyrants – Obedience to God

This series explores a 275 year old sermon that John Adams called the “Morning Gun of the American Revolution”.   You could make the case from this sermon that Romans 13 is America’s founding Bible verse.   Romans 13 properly taught indicates that Gods purpose for civil government is simply “To Restrain Evil and to Encourage Good”.   This passage clearly teaches that “rulers” in civil government are only servants of God if they are aligned with this purpose.  Rev. Jonathan Mayhew on Jan 30, 1750  proves that those “rulers” working against these purposes should be called tyrants.   Now, take a deep dive into the United States’ founding Bible verse, Romans 13.

On January 30, 2025 we did a broadcast from Boston at the exact site, that this sermon was preached by 29yr old Jonathan Mayhew, 275 years ago.  John Adams called the sermon the “Morning Gun of the American Revolution”.  It was a bold first shot in 1750 that awakened the American people from slumber.  To celebrate the firing of this Spiritual Morning Gun we did a 25 minute teaching on location.
