
The NC state flag and seal has the date May 20, 1775 emblazoned upon it. Do you know why? It was the day Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) declared their County Independence of Great Britain.
Our nation is filled with stories of unknown patriots taking a stand and doing heroic things. Little is known of this history of the Charlotte NC area, but less than half century ago, the historic events of May 20, 1775 and other events like the Battle of Kings Mountain, drew tens of thousands (and even over 100,000 a couple of times ) to the Charlotte area. This also included four US presidents and Congressional Delegations.
