The Bill of Rights

The Bill of Rights begins with these words...

"Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution."

Did you catch that. The Bill of Rights purpose to clarify and declare "Restrictive Clauses" that would restrict the federal government from over-reaching and abusing it's powers.

Any honest observer can see the opposite has happened. The federal government through the Supreme Court has turned this on its head. By a misconstruing of the 14th Amendment, the federal government has essentially declared that it is the arbiter of the Bill of Rights, telling the states how they should interpret them. On the contrary, the original design was that the States were saying the federal government has "no authority of these things" but in fact is restrained by these things.

The Bill of Rights is actually a continuation of the rights that the founders began with in the Declaration of Independence. When they penned the words - "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" that the "among these rights" portion meant that there were additional rights.

The Bill of Rights continues this list of inalienable rights, given by the Creator.
