A National Covenant from 411 years, May 1607

Also on this National Day of Prayer, it is timely to reflect on one of America's national covenants that was proclaimed 411 years ago this month.   God is a covenant making God who upholds his promises through all generations. Take a look at this covenant below and consider if we, the American people, are still living up to our part of the covenant.  For your consideration.....

On May 14, 1607, 104 men and boys of the London Company arrived on the ships, Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery at Jamestown Island, sixty miles from the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.

Upon landing, the colonists planted a wooden cross in the sand, Pastor Robert Hunt, the chaplain of Jamestown, knelt before the cross and offered this prayer of dedication and covenant.

“We do herby Dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the People within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up Godley generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth.  May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may the Land along with England, be Evangelist to the World”    ~ Pastor Robert Hunt, Chaplain of Jamestown, May 14, 1607
